A NEW scheme to demolish Colne's former Hide restaurant and build new homes on the site has been submitted to Pendle Council.

Developers Livingstone Properties has re-submitted an outline planning application to demolish the Hide in Ball Grove and build 11 homes on the site.

The council has asked Blackburn-based brewery Thwaites, which owns the derelict building, to think again about demolishing it before any plans are passed.

The building has been targeted by vandals and the brewery said the best way to avoid the expense of securing it, and any possible dangers to youngsters playing on the site, would be to pull it down.

Several previous applications to build differing numbers of houses on the site have been rejected by councillors. The latest application is set to be discussed by the council's Colne area committee on September 7.

Other recent applications include: Install eight loading bay doors at Silentnight, Moss Shed, Long Ing Lane, Barnoldswick; widen access and erect gates and railings to enclose extended car park to side, 37 Church Street, Barnoldswick; side extension to form granny flat, 17 Gledstone View, Barnoldswick.

Form car park to serve 1 and 3 Carry Bridge Hall, Carry Lane, Colne; side extension to form MOT bay, Earby Autos, Lane Ends Garage, Skipton Road, Earby; install new window opening to side, Emmott Arms, Keighley Road, Laneshawbridge; retain steel portal framed building for agricultural use, Knarrs Hill Cottage, Warley Wise Lane, Laneshawbridge.

Change of use to financial services office, single storey rear extension and new frontage, 91-93 Manchester Road, Nelson; erect replacement garage to side, 3 Castercliffe Road, Nelson; single storey rear extension to kitchen, 7 Carleton Street, Nelson; erect garage, land adjacent substation, Lambert Street, Trawden; erect two storey side extension and porch to front, 2 Greystones, Skipton Road, Trawden.
