I NOTE Council bosses have defended their summer programme of live events in the parks (LET, August 22) and I am delighted they have done so.

I must confess, however, that when I took my dog for a walk on Saturday evening a mile away from Witton Park, the sound of music wafting over the hills was noticeable.

Although residents, I am sure, were aware the events were taking place, such has been the excellence of the publicity, perhaps the council could consider sending individual letters to residents whose properties border the park about a month before major and potentially noisy shows.

When I lived in Birmingham it was not uncommon for those living near the site of major events to be given free admittance.

This year has seen many wonderful events around Blackburn. I was disappointed, however, at the relatively low number of local people who turned out to witness the Battle of Blackburn.

There appeared to be more folk from outside Lancashire than from within. People have shouted long and hard about the apparent lack of events of this scale in Blackburn, so and when they appear they deserve support.

The Council has done much recently to improve the quality of life on a number of fronts. One notable example is the public art all around the town.

In the meantime I am looking forward to the next park event.
