WHEN I was in my early teens in 1945, I lived in St Peters Street where Jack Walker and his father, Charles and brother Fred first had a little workshop at the back of our house.
My mother used to brew their tea and make lunches for them, as they had no facilities at the time. I remember I used to ask my mother to let me take the tea to them as they used to give me a few coppers.
Jack also used to give my mother a bottle of port every Christmas and on her birthdays.
She was very grateful as we were very poor at the time.
