BURY Ladies Rounders League's final week got under way at Goshen on Sunday with the year's secondary competition the Pattiman Plate.

This showdown was contested between the third and fourth placed teams from the top division, Ramsbottom Ladies and Ainsworth A.

Ainsworth batted first and progress was slow but steady. When Ramsbottom batted, their approach was a little more adventurous and by half-time they had opened up a lead 79-57.

The second half was played out in a similar vein and Ramsbottom kept their lead to claim the trophy. Ramsbottom 142, Ainsworth A 108.

On Monday night the rain held off for those who travelled to Radcliffe CC for the final of the Lomax Cup.

The match proved to be a low-scoring affair by Seventh and Eighth Division standards. Deardens' nerves seemed to settle quicker and their bowler had an excellent night but PJ Power were unable to bat to their normally high standards. PJ Power 65, Dearden's Ladies 106.

On Tuesday the conditions were damp and the sky overcast for the Abbott Cup final but the rain held off for the duration of the game.

This final brought together our Division Five champions, Swan Ladies, against the Division Six cup side, Bury Sports Club. During the first innings there was little to separate the two sides, though Swan opened a slight lead at half time 66-42.

The second innings proved to be decisive as Swan batted better in their second knock, adding 78 points to give their opponents a target of 101.

The most important ingredient of the game was the improvement of Swan's triangle of bowler, back-stop and first base during the final innings. Swan Ladies 142, Bury Sports 65.

On Wednesday our luck held yet again as the rain disappeared on time for the final of the Orr Shield. Third Division Redvales Ladies faced Bury East A from the Fourth Division.

In the first half there were two good fielding displays which led to a fairly low half-time score of Redvales 32, Bury East A 46.

In the second innings, Redvales improved somewhat, adding a further 46 points to their total. It was the fourth and final knock which decided the outcome as the underdogs found their batting form and pulled away from their opponents to complete a great season.

The result combined to make a unique treble: cup winners, league winners and Gala Day winners. Redvales Ladies 78, Bury East A 118.

The last cup final of the year on Thursday, the Ashworth Cup, brought together Fishpool A and Second Division champions St Mary's A.

Fishpool's experience allowed them to play their normal game while nerves meant that St Mary's took much longer to settle down.

Consequently, Fishpool were able to open up a huge gap in the first innings 107-27. At that point, everyone thought that Fishpool wouldn't have to bat again but in their second knock, St Mary's showed what they are capable of and scored 85 points.

Unfortunately for them, the damage had already been done and Fishpool went on to show that they are a very hard team to beat. Fishpool A 211, St Mary's A 112.
