BUDDING young artists from ten summer playschemes across Preston are to take part in an exciting project to get their "Message for the Millennium" across.

The project, run by the Harris Museum and Art Gallery and sponsored by Booth's Supermarkets, encourages children to produce their own posters, and two winners will have their work displayed in the Millennium Dome's Faith Zone in October 2000.

Children from ten local playschemes in and around Preston will be putting pencil to paper to have their posters displayed at the Harris Museum's Community Gallery between August 15 - 31.

The two chosen designs will be delivered to the Dome and displayed in the Faith Zone, the area where members of the public can leave their "Message for the Millennium".

The messages will be left unread for 50 years and then unveiled to the public as a national archive. It is hoped that the posters will inspire visitors to The Dome to create their own messages and take part in this monumental event.

Alexandra Walker, head of arts and heritage, says: "This project is a great example of the Harris working along with Preston Borough Council's summer playschemes and an important local company, Booths Supermarkets, to create a project by and for Prestonians which will be seen by people from all over the country.

"I hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to come along and see the posters before they are sent to The Dome."
