CLIFF Edwards dips his net into the pool of boyhood memory in providing a fishy little puzzler which he hopes members of the angling fraternity might be able to solve.

Formerly of Windle, but now living in Orrell, Cliff says: "As a boy I used to catch what I called 'chockyeds' in the brook running from Carr Mill Dam overspill." These were small fish which hid under stones and had enormous heads in proportion with their bodies.

"I wonder," he says, "if anyone can recognise the description and provide the proper name for these little fish which gave me such happy sport during my childhood?"
