FLEETWOOD 221-7 Dec LEYLAND DAF 188 All Out
IN an entertaining league game at Broadwater on August Fleetwood held on to third place beating Leyland Daf.
Put in to bat Fleetwood made 221-7 before declaring after only 46.1 of their scheduled 60 overs.
In reply Leyland Daf made a spirited effort to get the runs but were bowled out for 188 with Alex Laird finishing with fine figures of 7-50.
John Wright, four, was an early loss for Fleetwood when he dragged a ball onto his stumps and Michael Clinning (7) soon followed him to the pavilion with the total on 34.
Stand-in professional Gary Yates, the Lancashire spinner, made 18 before he fell LBW to Daf skipper David Makinson. Nick Coultas in his first senior game of the season, struck a magnificent 76 with 15 powerfully hit fours and one huge six before being dismissed. John Whalley also scored freely and when he was out for 66 Fleetwood were on 217-6. Mark Wilkinson made 17 and after Karl Wilkinson was bowled for a duck. Andy Singleton was left 22 not out as Fleetwood declared at 221-7.
The Daf reply started in fine style and Makinson and James Aspinwall had 66 on the board by the 12th over. Wickets then began to fall as Alex Laird added to his already impressive season's haul. Makinson was caught by Coultas for 38, Aspinwall by Wright for 34 and soon Leyland Daf lost their middle order for only 44 more runs.
Howarth and Eddleston took the total to 140 before both were out and the loss of Phil Iddon left Daf staring defeat in the face at 151-9.
But Iqbal Lillee added some life to the proceedings by crashing a quick, if quirky, 32. Laird eventually had him caught on the mid-wicket boundary.
