LANCASTER'S students are being warned to watch out for a silent killer as they move in to rented flats and houses over the next few weeks.
British Gas says University and St Martin's college students should ask landlords to ensure gas appliances have been checked to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The invisible gas kills around 50 people each year and injures many more. If a carbon monoxide problem is suspected, students should switch off gas appliances and call the Transco emergency number on 0800 111 999.
