AROUND 100 asylum seekers will be making their way to Blackpool after the council approved a three-year agreement yesterday (August 23).
The Home Office approved plan will offer care, information and support to needy families.
The council will be appealing to landlords with suitable accommodation out of the holiday area of the resort.
The three-year plan aims to house, feed and support the 100 asylum seekers by employing a social worker, support worker, clerk, accountancy assistant and an accommodation officer at a cost of more than £850,000.
Alvaro Cubillos, leader of Blackpool's asylum centre, based on Pleasant Street, said: "It is important the community is made aware of the problems these people face. We hope to change the public's attitude to asylum seekers. They need support and education. They must not become a sub culture," he said.
