PILKINGTON Spartans have been crowned champions of the St Helens Rounders League.

But the runners-up spot is still up for grabs. TNT have staged a late surge and are pushing Windle to the wire.

And Grasshopper and UG have locked horns for the Division Two title.

Meanwhile, Sunday saw two St Helens sides in action in national competitions at Rotherham. The over 35s won their group, beating Saddleworth 8-2 and Sherwood 10-5. The St Helens scoring included boundary rounders from Jackie Bailey, Sue Smith, Janet Kenny and June Harden.

However, the under 21s didn't do as well, despite doing the league proud.

Squads included:

Linda Graham (Bobbies Lane), Sue Smith (Burtonwood), Jackie Bailey (TNT), Fred Crawford (Pilks Crusaders), Janette Toole (Haydock), June Harden (TNT), Tricia Winstanley (Bobbies Lane), Julie Nolan (Haydock), Janet Kenny (Windle) and Carol Whittaker.

Under 21s: Emma Pritchard (Grasshoppers), Gemma Nolan (Haydock), Carly Burrows (Pilks Vikings), Claire Toole (Haydock), Carolyn Slater (PIlks Vikings), Alison Collier (Piks Crusaders), Lyndsey Pumford (Pilks Vikings), Michelle Rylance (Windle), Donna Melling (Sutton), Helen Gore (Pilks Crusaders), Kelly Nolan (Haydock).
