PRESCOT and Odyssey CC earned a convincing win at Cheshire Lines on Saturday.
After winning the toss P&O skipper Carl Oughterson asked the home team to bat first, despite having only three recognised bowlers in the team. The first wicket fell in Cartmel's second over.
And soon after Wilkinson, back from injury, joined the party, bamboozling the opposition with his leg spin and picking up wickets. Cartmel bowled without any further luck beating the edge on numerous occasions until he was replaced by McComb. The two leg spinners proceeded to destroy the Chesire Lines batting who were dismissed for 76, Wilkinson picking up 5-40, McComb 4-12 and Cartmel 1-18.
In reply P&O the batsmen suffered the early losses of Edwards and Danson with the score not yet on 20 but Pearl and Greenwood dug in and built good innings. Tea was taken with the score on 60. After tea the runs to complete the match were taken in quick time, the only glitch being the loss of Pearl (38) with scores level. It was left to Keeble to hit the winning run, Greenwood remaining not out with 27.
The second team managed only a draw, after bowling out Cheshire Lines for 173 Steve Hewitt picking up 4-52 Dave Green 2-13. In reply P&O were never in contention as the top order batsmen got a start then failed to capitalise. Only Chris O'Hara 36 not out and Kevin Kehoe 26 got past the teens, P&O secured an extra batting point in the final over ending up on 128-8.
The third team also drew, Bill Ewen failed to complete his maiden century by just four runs as P&O amassed 186. Eastham were never in with a sniff of victory and were content to bat out for a draw compiling 86-6.
This weekend the first team entertain St Mary's Old Boys, the 2nd's visit the Crosby outfit and the thirds visit Old Parkonians.
