I AM writing in response to the Labour council's decision to shelve plans to spend money on car park security and not to replace the community safety officer.

Why anyone should be surprised at this latest revelation is beyond me in view of the fact that we must now have one of the most incompetent and uncaring councils in the country.

However, there are several very serious additional questions that we should be asking our local politicians. During recent months it has been stated time and time again that the council was "teetering on the brink of bankruptcy" and each time this has been denied.

These denials included a statement by the chief executive only a few weeks ago positively stating that there was no cash crisis in our town hall. I am sure that we would all like to know, if there was no cash crisis a few weeks ago, then what must have changed so dramatically since then? Realistically, there must have been major troubles brewing then and as this must be the case, why was it not identified and what on earth are we paying these officers and councillors for?

With regard to their decision not to replace the community safety officer when she leaves, this just about sums up their attitude towards the people of Blackpool.

Does anyone really believe that a council that votes to close pensioner homes, gives a can of beans for the safety of the community?

I feel strongly that Mr Bancroft and the Labour councillors should immediately resign and stand again on their achievements since May 4. These include closing pensioner homes, shelving the above plans and, be warned, the list is likely to include libraries, education, tourism etc. before much longer!

When I earlier referred to them as the "twopence ha'penny council" I was drawing the comparison to their lack of skills, compassion and judgement. Perhaps it would have been more accurate to link this to how much they are going to have in the reserves come the end of the financial year!

Blackpool Town Hall has denied that they are to shelve plans to install CCTV cameras in the town's car parks and say that they are in fact going ahead with further installations soon. --Editor.
