"RESIDENT" (Your Letters, August 18) is not on her own. Many other people suffer similar harassment from playing children and not just on council estates.

The estate I live on is partly warden-controlled sheltered accommodation and the elderly people can no longer sit outside their homes because of the terrible, foul-mouthed abuse they suffer from these children, some as young as six.

It is an "open plan" estate, and they ride over the lawns on their bikes and play football. They have vandalised shrubs and trees and even climb on to the roofs of the elderly people's bungalows. What was once a lovely estate is now a mess.

The parents of these children couldn't care less about the way people are suffering. Some residents have had a meeting with councillors, but nothing has been done. I read that Bury Council is helping to get funding for wardens on some estates, but they can only be in one place at a time and these louts will soon catch on.

This anti-social behaviour is very worrying. I sympathise with "Resident" very much.
