RESIDENTS in Parr and Blackbrook are supporting a campaign to stop the misuse of fireworks in the area.
Over the last 18 months a cash injection from the European fund has enabled the development of cycle paths and gardens into the community.
However a number of residents are concerned these facilities may be destroyed in the build up to bonfire night.
Eddie McConville, chairman of St. Helens Federation, said: "The council visit shop owners in the area asking them not to sell fireworks and bangers to young children.
"The residents are becoming frustrated because this advice is being ignored. Before long we will have a situation were somebody is killed.
"There should be a total ban on the sale of fireworks apart from at organised events.
"The Police and Trading Standards wait until November before taking an interest in the situation. By this time it is to late and all the damage has been done, continued Mr McConville."
