TWO disabled men are looking to drive their way into the record books by completing a mammoth trek across Britain.

Geoff West and Tony Palmer are planning to travel by disabled scooter from Land's End to John O' Groats and then back again.

The duo, who are aiming to raise £30,000 for a local singing group, reckon the 2,300 mile trip will take 30 days to complete.

Geoff, 53, from Hempshaw Avenue, Loveclough, Rossendale, suffers from arthritis and diabetes. Tony, a 62-year-old former lorry driver from Moorland Road, Burnley, was forced to stop work as a chef because of a severe epilepsy condition.

Geoff and Tony are being sponsored by Warburtons Bakers, Asda and Morrisons.

The two men and a driver will sleep in a caravan and travel around 70 miles every day on the scooter and were at Morrisons in Blackburn to get their fund-raising under way.

The plan is to raise enough cash for the Oh No's singers from the Gannow Centre in Burnley who want to travel to special music festival in Cape Town, South Africa, next August.

The duo are setting of on their mammoth trip on Sunday but they are still looking for a volunteer to drive the back-up van for part of the journey.

Geoff said: "I am willing to try anything and I have been up Mount Snowdon in a scooter.

"Last year we went from Land's End to John O'Groats and this time around we thought we would go one better.

"As far as we know this is first time anyone has tried to do the trip on a scooter and we are hoping for a place in the Guinness Book of Records."

Anyone willing to help the intrepid duo complete their task should contact Geoff on 07799 754240 as soon as possible.
