CHORLEY 8 LINCOLN 1 THE East Lancashire air clearly does not agree with Lincoln United.
Last year they shipped ten goals at Stanley's Crown ground and it could easily have been ten at Victory Park on Saturday.
Even the dismissals of two Lincoln players cannot be used as an excuse for a second half hammering as Chorley rattled in six goals, five in a 20 minute spell.
The Magpies were already 5-1 up when Danny Hargreaves was sent off after 63 minutes for a high tackle and the eight goals were in the Chorley bag when keeper Mark Wilson followed on 80 after bringing down sub Paul Thomson 35 yards from goal.
Matt Swailes opened the scoring on 12 minutes, converting Adam Critchley's cross but Lincoln levelled six minutes later when Dominic Revill hit a 35 yard shot past Simon Marsh. Danny Mills flicked home a corner on 28 minutes to take the lead into the break.
Quality headers from Swailes (49) and Mills (59) set the scene for Chorley to run riot and exploit a square Lincoln defence.
Dave Eatock cracked in Chris Blakemans' tempting cross for number five and Mills rattled the visitors' bar with a well timed header before completing his hat trick from the spot after the keeper had upended Eatock.
Thomson's introduction brought him two quick goals (73 and 79 minutes), the second a deft chip from 25 yards, and he was on track for his hat trick when the keeper played his final card.
At least United's stand in keeper had the satisfaction of keeping a clean sheet for the final 10 minutes.
