JOHN Blunt's defence of the capuchin monkey Joe (LET, August 23) is commendable.
I have never understood why some people wish to own an exotic pet. The main concern is the welfare of any animal in captivity and it should be illegal to own one.
It's doubtful Joe would be accepted by other monkeys living in social groups.
Only the Monkey World sanctuary in Dorset can advise what is best on this sad issue.
