SHEFFIELD Wednesday boss Paul Jewell was delighted with the way his patched-up side matched Rovers all the way at Hillsborough last night.
Missing the likes of Wim Jonk, Gilles De Bilde and Kevin Pressman, Jewell was forced to name a clutch of teenagers in his 16-man squad for the televised clash.
But, after centre back Ashley Westwood got them off to the perfect start with a goal inside two minutes, the Owls could have taken all three points but for a fine display from Alan Kelly.
"I think we did really well considering the circumstances because we were stretched to the limit," said Jewell.
"But sometimes in adversity people pull together and the squad we've had to put out against Grimsby and again against Blackburn has been a case of 'If you've got boots then you can play.'
"We were already stretched to the limit then I had to take Andy Hinchcliffe off after 20 minutes. "And I thought we were unfortunate not to win.
"We started off really well but then lost Alan Quinn for five minutes and we lost our way a bit after that.
"But even though it was a scrappy game first half we still had the best chance when it was 1-0 through Richard Cresswell.
"I was disappointed with the way we conceded the goal, though.
"However, we raised our game again in the second half and I think they were pleased to hang on for a point in the end."
Jewell paid special tribute to 17-year-old keeper Chris Stringer, who was making his first full appearance.
"To be fair, he goaled well at Wolves and he passed his test again tonight.
"But I think the players in front of him deserve a lot of credit and I don't just mean the back four." QUOTE: Souness This is the type of game we probably would have got nothing from 12 months ago
