ORGANISERS of the Clitheroe Festival 2000 insisted the three-day event was a success, despite concerns over a low turn-out.

The festival was originally due to take place in May but had to be postponed because of worries over security.

Ribble Valley Council were also unhappy about the concert and removed posters advertising the event, which had a £10 a day entry fee.

Acts booked for the festival included Herman's Hermits, Bucks Fizz, cockney legends Chas 'n' Dave and the Rubettes. There was also a Stars in Their Eyes style talent contest.

Phil Knight, who runs Keystreet Music, claimed before the festival the event cost a fortune to stage and attendances were low during parts of the event.

A spokesman for Mr Knight insisted: "There was a fair number of people at the event and we had a really good weekend.

"We had a very busy time and everyone who came along seemed to really enjoy themselves."

The organisers are still trying to work out how many people attended the festival over the three days.
