DARWEN kept their slim chances of retaining their Northern League title alive with a comprehensive win over third placed Chorley.

A delayed start and then a heavy downpour reduced the Chorley innings to 39 overs. Darwen's bowlers were always on top from the moment Mercer had Patel brilliantly caught by captain Neil Cordingley in his first over.

Every time Chorley tried to pick up the run rate they lost a wicket with Mercer taking four and Semple three. Only Senior put up any real resistance hitting a quick 30. There were also three exceptional run outs as Chorley were dismissed for a mere 95 runs.

Darwen's batsmen were then able to take their time to knock off the total with ease, losing just three wickets in the process, the key partnership being Gareth Cordingley and Semple's 53. Semple fell for 23 leaving captain Neil Cordingley to hit the winning runs finishing on 12 with his brother Gareth on 30 not out.
