YOUNG midfielder Jonathan Douglas donned the captain's arm band and responded with a two-goal show as Rovers eased to a comfortable win at Ewood Park last night.

Blackburn sealed the points by cruising into a 3-0 lead after being set on their way by Kaba Diawara who latched onto a poor back-pass early on and sprinted clear to beat keeper Steve Simonsen.

Douglas then took centre stage when he dived to head home a cross by Jeff Kenna.

And the midfiield man then made it 3-0 with a fine individual effort when he jinked past a couple of players to fire home.

The only blot on Rovers' copy book was conceding a sloppy goal before the break but with a 3-1 interval lead they never looked in any danger after the break.

Diawara and Egil Ostenstad missed chances to add to Rovers advantage and Douglas could have completed a hat-trick but failed to convert a heading opportunity.

Reserve boss Terry Darracott was delighted with the result and the performance as Douglas led by example.

"He was smashing. I'm very pleased for him," said Darracott, who reported a clean bill of health afterwards.

Darren Peacock took his chance in the shop window to impress watching Cardiff boss Bobby Gould, while Jeff Kenna and Steve Harkness played 90 minuites as they wait for a chance to claim a full-back berth at senior level.

Rovers: Filan, Kenna, Harkness, McKinlay, Peacock, Howson, Baldachino, Douglas, Diawara, Ostenstad (Burgess), Corbett (O'Brien).
