GENERATIONS to come will enjoy Lodge Plantation in Towneley Park, thanks to footpath improvements.
As part of the Forest of Burnley's woodland management programme, the Environmental Task Force Team, part of the Government's New Deal programme, has been carrying out improvements in the wood. The team has installed two flights of wooden steps, resurfaced some of the footpaths with stone and installed drains in boggy areas and pruned a number of low protruding tree branches next to the footpath to improve access.
Lancashire Wildlife Trust supervised the work by the team which provides training for unemployed people from the Burnley and Blackburn areas.
The work has been approved by the forestry commission and is being funded by them and the Millennium Lottery Commission.
