A CHILDREN'S charity has been swamped with donations since the death of Jack Walker.
The self-made millionaire's family asked for any gifts in his memory to be sent to Sargent Cancer Care for Children.
Michelle Levan, for the charity, said they had received more than 20 cheques every day since the request was made early last week, amounting to about £2,000 so far.
She said: "Most of the donations are between £10 and £30 and seem to have come from ordinary people. About half is from Jersey and half from the Blackburn area."
Some of the money has been given anonymously and some notes simply say they are from Blackburn supporters.
Michelle said they expected more money to be given during the next two weeks and they plan to thank supporters and announce how much has been raised at a Blackburn Rovers home game in a few weeks. The cash will be used to help children with cancer and their families. The charity funds social workers at the Christie Hospital and Pendlebury Children's Hospital, where many East Lancashire children are treated., to help young patients cope with the emotional trauma.
They provide grants to help families whose finances are stretched to the limit by the cost of travelling, extra heating and accommodation while children are ill.
Families can take respite breaks at the charity's holiday home and teenagers recovering from cancer can go on adventure camps with other youngsters to help boost their confidence after the long battle with disease.
Donations in memory of Jack Walker can be sent to Sargent Cancer Care for Children, 161 Hammersmith Road, London, W8 8SG.
