THANK you for publishing my request for information regarding houses on 'stilts' in Darwen in the 1916-1927 years, when my mother lived there (Letters, August 6).
Many readers were kind enough to contact me. Over a seven-day period I received a total of 17 phone calls, three e-mails and four letters, plus a map highlighting the houses in Tockholes Road, which were mentioned by quite a few.
There were several other locations suggested, including the Bolton Road, Redearth Road and Bury Road areas.
No doubt about it, I must now plan a trip to Darwen later this year to research the matter further.
As I do not have addresses for most of the kind folk who took the trouble to contact me, I would appreciate the opportunity to thank them through your pages.
FRED MARTIN, Silverdale Road, Earley, Reading.
