BOSSES of a Burnley factory earmarked for closure were today holding talks with trade unions to discuss the redundancies of all its 33 workers.

The workforce at Delphi Diesel Systems, in Widow Hill Road, was hit with the news this week that they are all facing redundancy when the company closes on November 30.

Company representatives have entered into a consultation period with the two trade unions involved and are hoping to provide alternative work for the employees.

The work covered by the Burnley factory will be distributed across the company's other sites in Suffolk, Kent and Gloucestershire.

UK Human Resources Director, Gareth Evans, said: "We are open to ideas from the unions and we have reached the decision to close the factory based on spare capacity and an extensive review of the financial and operational viability of all the sites.

"We have an obligation to talk to our employees 'representatives. If they can come up with ideas that we haven't thought of, we want to consider anything

" We want to be fair with our employees as they have been with us. We are holding consultations with the unions to try and do the best we can for everybody.

"Nothing can be put down to individuals here. It's very unfortunate for the people here who are very good workers."

The factory, in Widow Hill Road, has manufactured diesel pumps and injectors for commercial vehicles since 1966.
