EARLY morning milk deliveries are making life a misery for fed-up residents in Nelson, according to a council report.
A public meeting called over a dairy unit in Norfolk Street was told delivery trucks could be heard arriving as early as 5.15am causing 'significant distress' to residents trying to get some sleep.
The meeting was told delivery companies had since been asked to arrive between 7am and 8am.
The refrigerated dairy unit, which is used as a base for milk delivery rounds, has been operating since the beginning of this year. A retrospective planning application for the unit is recommended for approval by Pendle Council's Nelson area committee on Monday despite residents' reservations.
Seven letters of objection to the unit have been delivered to the council by residents not only worried about noise, but also about danger from the delivery wagons to children and parents arriving and leaving nearby Lomeshaye Junior School.
But despite their objections, planning officer Daniel Hartley, recommends permission is granted subject to the unit only being open to milk deliveries between 8am and 9am and 3pm to 4pm.
