WALSHAW SC 2 - ACCRINGTON AMS 0
WALSHAW started with determination and drive and soon had their visitors on the defensive.
Piercing moves down both flanks troubled Accrington but the home side failed to turn their superiority into goals while the visitors were left to rely on the long ball that was easily cut out by the local side's defence.
The second half began as the first half ended and it appeared only a matter of time before Walshaw got on the scoresheet.
They came close when Chris McCrory received the ball in midfield and from 30 yards hit a shot that had everything, power, direction and dip but alas the Accrington 'keeper was the equal to it and pulled off a great save tipping the ball over the bar.
With 20 minutes to go Walshaw made a change and brought Ian Thompstone up from defence to spearhead the attack.
Soon after this tactical switch a driving attack won Walshaw a corner kick which Martin Kelly took, a sweet left foot inswinger which Thompstone rose high to head home.
Walshaw maintained their dominance of the game and shortly afterwards a replica move resulted in Thompstone adding his and his side's second.
Accrington pushed forward in an attempt to get back into the game and went close to scoring but Rick Manning cleared off the line.
This was a good team performance from the whole squad and there was a great debut for 17-year-old Marcus Dydyna.
