WILCOCK Insurance Group in Longridge are opening a new agency with Yorkshire Building Society.

Helen Wilcock has been managing director of the firm for the last six years, taking over from her father Hubert who founded the business in 1966.

In 1970 Wilcock's joined forces with the Bradford and Bingley Building Society to provide saving and mortgage services within their office.

But they have made the move from Bradford and Bingley as the building society is working towards converting to a bank.

Helen said: "We very much believe that mutual organisations, both insurance companies and building societies, offer 'best advice' over the long term.

"I think Bradford and Bingley priorities will need to be focused on increasing profits to pay shareholders, rather than providing investors and borrowers with the best possible rates or returns.

"We approached Yorkshire Building Society because they are totally committed to remaining a mutual organisation, which they demonstrate through the products and services they offer.

"At a time when many of the former financial institutions have closed in Longridge, we are delighted that the Yorkshire are moving in."
