ARM wrestler Chris Andrews got his grip on the national title for a fifth time last weekend.

The 26-year-old powerhouse, pictured with his trophy, pushed aside rivals to become the 90kg British Professional Arm Wrestling Champion in Croydon on Sunday (Aug 27).

Chris, a HGV mechanic, of Tottington Road, Bury, muscled in on the arm wrestling scene eight years ago in a competition at the Three Arrows pub on Bolton Road. He won hands down!

Six weeks later he won his first British title and that put him on the path to compete in various international contests, including the European Championships.

Last weekend's success earned him the accolade of being the first competitior to win the British title at four different weights, having previously been triumphant at 65kg, 75kg twice, and 80kg.

But Chris's chances of competing in the forthcoming World Championships at the end of September look slim because he needs sponsorship to fund the trip to Florida.

Said Chris: "The problem is that in this country it is still regarded as a pub sport."
