ESTATE residents were this week invited to get their kit on as part of a culture launch on Atherton's Hag Fold.
A week of taster sessions at the Dorset Road Community Centre offered residents the chance to take part in both sporting and cultural activities - then give their views on what they want to see for the future.
The SRB5 project "Recreate" aims to provide many new opportunities for local people in the arts, sports, play, health and environmental activities - all contributing to the regeneration of the estate.
On Tuesday youngsters were able to sample soccer, softball and tag rugby, while on Wednesday sport made way for mosaic making and drop-in arts and crafts sessions in the morning.
In the afternoon there was jungle fun with stories and rhymes for the under fives and carers and an activate beginners' class to encourage interest in physical exercise.
Wigan Council's new arts develoment officer, Angela Chappell, said: "There's going to be a lot happening at Dorset Road in the coming months and I would urge local people to come along and see what's in it for them.
'We will be asking people about their ideas and aspirations as well as giving them the chance to try all kinds of different activities.
"I am sure this project can make a real contribution to the renewal of Hag Fold."
A cultural activity worker is being recruited to run the project on the estate.
The project is supported by the £6 million Atherton Building Communities SRB5 programme and has also received funding from the North West Arts Board Regional Initiative Fund.
