POSTING bricks through a letterbox and eggthrowing were just some of the wacky challenges at Radcliffe Rotary Club's "It's A Knockabout" competition on Bank Holiday Monday Aug 28).
A total of 18 teams battled through 12 weird and wonderful challenges in the town's answer to the Olympics.
The sunshine encouraged 1,500 people to go along to Radcliffe Cricket Club to spectate at the spectacular, which was won by the Stanmore Stallions team. Rotary Club president Mr Peter Cooke said: "It was a fantastic day and everyone was a winner, the teams, the crowds and above all the local charities who will share in the several thousand pounds we have raised."
The event also marked the conclusion of the Radcliffe Festival of Sport 2000 after three months of athletics and other sports.
Festival chairman Mr Cyril Jones said: "The aim of the festival was to encourage youngsters to take more of an interest in sport and I was very pleased with what we achieved. There were boys who had never played cricket before who now want to get involved."
He added: "It was a lot of hard work but it was worth it."
Every one of the 355 youngsters who participated were presented with medals by Radcliffe's former international swimmer Mr Peter Sillett and former world snooker champion John Spencer.
