THE glorious seaside weather wasn't matched by the performance of Bury's Golf Croquet team when they travelled to Southport on Saturday.
Tony Rudkin (handicap 3 with 6 the maximum) Jean Hargreaves (4), Marie Robinson ad Donald Lockett (both 6) took on very experienced Association Croquet opponents whose handicaps were 0, 0, 2 and 4.
The first round of doubles was a draw with Tony and Jean defeating the two home players with zero handicaps but the second and third rounds went to Southport, although only after tight contests, and the lunch score was 5-1 to the homesters.
In the afternoon singles Tony and Donald were winners for Bury but the home side took the remainder of the games, although only after a struggle and with most games taking the full time allowed.
