MOTORISTS could face delays on the A580 East Lancs Road between St Helens and Leigh during the next 15 weeks.
Work is scheduled to start on Monday, September 4 on a £400,000 scheme to refurbish six bridges on that stretch of the road.
Repainting and repairs at the Carr Mill, Withins, Penny Lane, Newton Common, Morley's Canal, and Colliery Railway bridges will involve off-peak lane closures on the A580. There will also be traffic light-controlled single-lane traffic at the Withins and Penny Lane bridges.
Highways Agency project manager, Nick Moreton, said: "This is part of our ongoing commitment to maintain the motorway and trunk road network to meet the needs of the 21st century. Motorists are advised that there may be some delays and are advised to allow extra time for their journey."
