ANDY Flintoff will make his last contribution for Lancashire this season in their National League double header at Worcester and Bristol in the next two days. And Lightning are hoping that Freddie could still keep them in the First Division.

England coach Duncan Fletcher has insisted that players like Flintoff, who have been selected for both winter tours, must rest during September -- making him unavailable for Lancashire's last two games in the Championship and National League, starting with the floodlit National League clash against Somerset at Old Trafford next Wednesday.

Lancashire were hoping that Fletcher would make Flintoff a special case as he still has to convince England of his fitness to bowl. But Fletcher is sticking to his guns, meaning that Freddie will sign off after Monday's National League game against Gloucestershire in Bristol.

The only consolation is that Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick will not be available for Somerset, nor Alec Stewart and Graham Thorpe for the last Championship game of the season against Surrey.

But by the time they play Somerset on Wednesday, Lightning could well be relegated, as they go into tomorrow's game at fifth placed Worcestershire bottom of the league and 10 points away from safety.

If Lancashire lose, and Sussex and Northants win their games against Yorkshire and Kent respectively, Lighting will be down -- and facing the prospect of Second Division one day cricket next season.

But Flintoff and his team mates are determined not to go down without a fight. Peter Martin is set to play despite the pain from the new thumb injury he suffered before the Championship match at Leicester, meaning that Lancashire should be at full strength apart from Mike Atherton. The main threat from Worcestershire is easy to identify -- Aussie pace ace Glenn McGrath, who has just returned from his country's indoor one day series against South Africa in Melbourne.

The following day at Bristol, Lancashire will be chasing revenge against a Gloucestershire team who have twice denied them a trip to Lord's. However, Lancashire do have one limited overs win against Mark Alleyne's team, thrashing them by 10 wickets in the National League at Old Trafford last month -- one of only three wins in Lightning's bitterly disappointing season.

Lancs (probable): Crawley, Ganguly, Flintoff, Fairbrother, Lloyd, Scuderi, Schofield, Hegg, Austin, Martin, Chapple.
