HOPPERS completed their pre-season programme with a narrow win -- 24-22 over Sedgley Park.
And with two former internationals in their ranks, the Manchester side provided a good test for a Hoppers squad containing five new recruits.
Early pressure from Hoppers was rewarded with a Glynn Dewhurst try.
Former Wales fly half Colin Stephens reduced the arrears with a penalty but Hoppers responded with Michael Lough giving Russell Flynn the chance to scythe through the park defence.
Chris Glynn converted. Stephens then kicked his second penalty and demonstrated his prowess as a kicker, adding three further penalties.
A blind side move then produced a converted try in the corner to give Park a ten point lead at the halfway mark.
Hoppers took control in an eventful third quarter. A Kieron Chadwick try from a line out got the show back on the road before rival locks Boyd and Raducanu become the first visitors to the newly introduced sin bin. Karl Fenton became the third visitor to the sin bin.
A period of pressure lead to Kieron Chadwick burrowing over for his second try with Glynn's conversion putting Hoppers back in front.
Hoppers begin their National League Two campaign on Saturday (September 2)with a trip to Gloucestershire to play Lydney. Their development side are home against Sandal at 3pm.
