I DO sympathise with Mr Rackman in having no quiet place to drink in Lancaster or Morecambe but I feel some of his comments were unfair. (Citizen: August 24)
According to his letter I am a "stupid young mother who drinks."
If you go out on a weekend night then there will be a lot of loud music and drunken behaviour in Lancaster and Morecambe. This is sad but true. The pubs make their money from us "young stupid drinkers."
On a weekday things are usually a lot quieter and refined in the town centres.
Am I supposed to stay in during the week, with my baby, if I want a quiet drink with friends, Mr Rackman?
If you want a quiet drink on a Saturday night then I am afraid you will have to keep away from the towns and go into the surrounding area, where it is more peaceful and restrained.
And in reply to the comment of "all the airmen, soldiers and sailors who would turn in their graves"- they might not have been so yobbish and loud as now but are you telling me they never had a drink and a good time?
