REGARDING Cllr Beaman's letter (Citizen: August 25) can I point out to him that the good residents of Hornby, Caton, Halton Warton, Cockerham, Galgate Garstang and many others would all like an extra bobby or at least a slice of one and if my maths is correct that amounts to ten per cent of the 100 extra recruits the Lancashire force is hopi ng to enlist.
I would like to advise Cllr Beaman that should he make greater contact with the electorate of Carnforth I think they would have litter and dog-fouling as there priorities and while we should never be complacent about street violence -- I think you'll find that street robbery theft and violence were far more prevalent 100 years ago then today.
Of course none of the electorate he has spoken with has expressed fears of being hit by a speeding motorist but has he spoken to the bereaved families in Lancashire who have had to go to the mortuary to identify their loved ones who have died as a result of speeding.
Perhaps Cllr Beaman would like to approach the next police motor cyclist he sees and ask him what he thinks of councillors. There could be range of answers and thy may include generalisations in the same way that Cllr Beaman is generalising. The sad part is that the Lancashire police's traffic department is nowadays virtually unnoticeable on our roads and sadder still that people like Mr Beaman can vilify those who are prohibited from replying in print. I retired seven years ago from the constabulary following 30 years of doing Cllr Beaman's dirty work for him and therefore am no longer precluded from answering such ill-informed and ill-founded commentary.
