THE state of our town has now come to the attention of major tourism experts and theiropinions (very good ones) have been printed in the newspaper. Will anybody listen? I sincerely hope so!

We have been through many troubled times and mistakes have been made, but instead of laying blame for such things as Blobby, let's put it behind us and learn from it. If the decision had been made, not to bring such an attraction to town, I wonder how many would now be saying that we missed an opportunity and that's why we have reduced numbers of visitors! There will always be those who look for somebody to blame but it's time to stop moaning about the past!

It's history now and we can't change it, so let's get on with the here and now and concentrate on getting the future right.

I would be interested to know the outcome of the meeting with the ice rink supplier and the councillors on Thursday 24 August at the Bubbles complex.

Don't get me wrong! I think any ideas should be thoroughly investigated to get the right mix of attractions for our seafront, but will they also meet with the Marina suppliers? I hope so!

It's time to listen to the opinions of the national tourism group, who quite clearly stated that it's time to go 'upmarket' and provide facilities that appeal to the middle classes.

Well, the plans for a marina are already in print (paid for by a local businessman) and have been for some time, so what's stopping us?

The Bubbles complex is unsuitable for many projects because of what it is, but it could easily be converted into a leisure complex with a complete range of facilities including restaurant, snack bars and fitness centre with a swimming pool and there would still be room to incorporate club facilities for boat and water sport enthusiasts.

I have spoken to a number of boat owners and suppliers who have told me that when the speed limit is finally imposed on Windermere, they would happily move their boats and businesses to Morecambe if facilities allowed.

So what's stopping us?
