CARNFORTH'S Steve Head as been named in the country's leading motoring journal -- Motoring News -- as one of the top ten drivers identified with raw talent, outright speed, consistency, results and personality and has the potential to go all the way and become a future works driver. The new annual award is a package of funding, support, training and personal introductions designed to help a chosen rally driver in their quests to become future world champions. If Steve is successful he will receive a £50,000 managed fund award which will be flexible and will be used to further promote Head in events such as the Roger Clark Trophy. "The award is a great initiative," explained Steve, "something that has been lacking in rallying in recent years. It would be great to win but there's a lot of competition."
"I've had a fantastic season winning the British Rally Championship for 1600cc production cars and chosen as one of the select few to take part in the Fit to be Champion initiative. I hope everyone reading this will log onto the website and vote as we need as much support as we can get to bring the award back to the north west."
Steve and the other competitors will meet the judges in September and the final will be held in October.
