YACHTSMAN Iain Percy could be on course to victory in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, thanks to a little bit of help from BAE Systems.
Engineers from the Warton site have developed a revolutionary carbon fibre mast using structural engineering and aerodynamic technologies applied to Eurofighter Typhoon.
The resulting design will be used by Iain, from Winchester, on his Finn class racing dinghy in the impending Olympics (pictured).
Peter Hodgkinson, international technology business manager at BAE Systems, said: "The technology applied to this new mast has given us an ideal opportunity to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of BAE Systems' computer, design, engineering and modelling skills, while hopefully helping a future British Olympic champion."
