A THORNTON pensioner has received a top award from the charity Macmillan Cancer Relief in honour of her exceptional work for them.
Dorothy Haworth (pictured) accepted her award from the charity's chairman Richard Hambro at Macmillan's annual rally in Birmingham last month. The rally looked back at its achievements in the 25 years since it was formed and celebrated the appointment of the 2000th Macmillan nurse.
Announcing Dorothy's award, Sir Nicholas Young, chief executive of Macmillan Cancer Relief, said: "Dorothy has been a member of the Thornton Cleveleys Macmillan committee for 23 years and has been chairman for the last ten. A first rate organiser, and a tireless worker, she inspires the committee with her dedication and has brought it great success."
