ANOTHER Morecambe Hotel is being used to house asylum seekers, The Citizen can reveal.
It is thought that up to 40 asylum seekers may have been moved into Morecambe and are staying in several properties including the Cranage Hotel in Regent Road.
The hotel was purchased by a southern businessman in June but there have been no planning applications submitted to turn it into a hostel.
Council chiefs are keeping a close eye on the housing of refugees in the resort and are concerned that they may be being kept in unsuitable accommodation.
Other properties are thought to be involved including one on Cedar Grove.
Cllr Geoff Knight said: "This is something we are watching very closely. It's not a question of the refugees causing any problems, they are not to blame at all, but we are concerned that they may be being housed illegally. We are worried that if one landlord is seen to get away with it then others may be tempted to do the same."
Cllr Westwell said: "Any landlord found doing this illegally should be pursued. It's not fair on the asylum seekers and it's not fair on local residents."
