CARL Fogarty's racing future is due to be decided in a make or break testing session in Spain.
Manufacturers Ducati are pushing for an answer as to whether the reigning world champion intends to ride for one last season.
But Fogarty's injured arm is far from fully recovered.
So Ducati have set up the test, on September 18 and 19, to help guage its strength and prompt Fogarty into a decision.
He said: "Ducati want me to decide and I want to decide.
"I know the arm is nowhere near 100 per cent, so I don't even know whether I can ride the bike.
"The reason for going is because my mind is 80 per cent certain I won't race.
"But until I am 100 per cent sure I don't want to say 'yes' or 'no' for definite.
"I think I'm probably going to walk away from the test and say 'I can't do this'.
"And I think the arm will be too bad even to race next year.
"So whether I want to race or not, I don't think I'll have a choice."
