RESIDENTS in the Albert Street area of Burnley are being invited to have a say in the development and safety of their district.
Police have linked with council, environmental health and community leaders to call a public meeting for householders in the Central Renewal Area.
They want residents to come forward to tell them what is needed to improve the district and how best anti-social behaviour issues can be tackled.
Community policeman PC Darren Ware, says the aim is to pave the way to setting up a community action team for the area -- one of several earmarked for various districts in Burnley.
The teams -- comprising police, housing, health and other agencies -- will link with residents to improve the environment and stamp out nuisance.
Organisers say one initiative will be to agree social behaviour contracts with problem residents, making them agree a promise of good behaviour to head off stronger measures to guarantee the peace in a locality.
The Albert Street meeting takes place at the 110 Club, Yorkshire Street, at 7.30pm on Tuesday. PC Ware said: "We want residents to come forward and identify the problems they face. Action groups will help to bring about better communities and the participation of residents is vital."
The meeting will be chaired by community leader Carole Barber.
