Booked -- Burnley...Weller, Cooke, Cook STAR RATINGS

CRICHTON: The ex-West Brom keeper took some stick from the home fans but didn't let it bother him...7

* LITTLE: Has taken the step up to Division One in his stride and caused Wolves plenty of problems, starting on the left and popping up across the midfield...8

THOMAS: Gave big money signing Bob Taylor another difficult afternoon...8

COX: Did an excellent job in nullifying the threat of dangerman Temuri Kestbaia...8

DAVIS: The third member of the Clarets' defence which was rarely breached, also knocking out some telling second half passes...8

COOK: Back on familar ground, the schemer unleashed a number of telling passes to launch Burnley breaks...7

COOKE: Worked the Wolves defence hard and had his best game yet in terms of holding the ball up... 7

BRISCOE: Burnley beat Wolves to the wing-back's signing and he showed why he was in demand with some great balls in from the left flank...7

WELLER: Neat on the ball but had to curtail his forward runs...7

BALL: Put the bite into the Burnley midfield to get Wolves on the back foot for spells...7

GRAY: A useful outlet but found Wolves strong central defensive pairing a difficult barrier to pass...6

SUBSTITUTES

BRANCH: Extra pace added to Burnley's threat...7

MULLIN: Stretched the Wolves defence

PAYTON: Like a magnet to the ball in the box OPPOSITE CAMP

OAKES: Kept his concentration to make a superb match-winning save from Payton...8

NAYLOR: Looks an excellent prospect and quick to attack from left-back...8

EMBLEN: Powerful figure in the mifield battle...7

BAZELEY: Didn't get too much joy from Briscoe...7

KETSBAIA: Largely snuffed out by Cox...6

TIME FOR ACTION

19Manuel Thetis lives dangerously when chesting down a Paul Weller cross to keeper Michael Oakes and Andy Cooke is booked for a challenge on the keeper

39Joleon Lescott moves forward from the Wolves defence and cracks a 35-yarder just wide

43Paul Cook flashes a free-kick across goal with Mitchell Thomas colliding with the back post as he just fails to get a touch

60Lee Briscoe's fine cross is met by Graham Branch but he can't keep his header down as Burnley gain the edge

64Wolves hit back and Briscoe has to clear off the line when Lescott connects with a corner

74The winner comes following a scramble in the Clarets' box as Steve Sedgley gets the vital touch to make it 1-0

78Andy Payton's introduction brings Burnley's best chance as he is denied an equaliser by Oakes' fine save

87Mitchell Thomas keeps Burnley in the hunt by clearing off the line from Mohamed Camara

89Kevin Muscat appears to catch Payton from behind but no penalty given

90Payton gets the better of Thetis but Mullin can't keep his header down from the cross TECHNICAL TALK

BURNLEY went man-for-man on Taylor and Ketsbaia through Thomas and Cox respectively and neither caused a major problem. The Clarets were quick to get men behind the ball and looked lively on the break before playing a more expansive game either side of the goal

SET-PIECE WATCH

DEAD-BALL expert Paul Cook used one first-half angle to near perfection when he was able to sling a left footer right across the face of the Wolves goal when a touch from either of three on-rushing Burnley players would have brought a goal

KEY MOMENT

BURNLEY looked more of a threat up front when the pace of Branch was introduced and conceding a goal led to manager Stan Ternent throwing on Payton with Mullin for support as well. That was the Clarets' most productive spell in front of goal.
