NURSE Rachel Coffey doesn't even have to get out of her bed in a morning to check on her sunflower because the 10ft 5ins monster is flowering outside her bedroom window.
Rachel, 26, of Rosedale Street, Rawtenstall, said: "I planted the seeds about May and one flowered when it got to 6ft but this one just kept on going.
"When it was first measured it was 8ft 2ins but it just grew and grew and grew!
"I have been watching the flower head from my upstairs bedroom window and now it is the only place you can see it properly - it even peers over the top of the TV."
Rachel works as an intensive care nurse at North Manchester General Hospital, Crumpsall.
She said: " My husband Sean is not a keen gardener and all he has ever said is he can see my 'triffid' from the road.
"My cats like it though and Topsy and Cleo like to lie underneath the large leaves at the bottom because it is nice and cool. My other kitten Jas is just eight weeks old and so hasn't been out to see the flower yet." LOVING CARE: Rachel waters the giant sunflower which has grown to a staggering 10ft 5ins
