BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness was a satisfied man after last night's thumping 6-1 victory over Rochdale in the Worthington Cup.
Rovers won the tie 7-2 on aggregate and now face a two-legged clash with Portsmouth in round two.
"Rochdale made it very difficult in the first half by playing just one up front and packing the midfield," said Souness.
"However, we sorted that out at half time and I thought the second half was a different story.
"We know we'll have to play better than that.
"But then, without being disrespectful to Rochdale, we won't be confronted with such a negative attitude when we play in the league here.
"Having said all that, I was just happy we got through and I think the last goal of the evening was worth the admission fee alone.
"The problem is we've now got to go out and show the same kind of effort everytime we got out because we won't be able to score six goals every game.
"We'll have to grind out results on occasions but I think we can do that."
Last night's hero was David Dunn who scored a hat-trick of penalties for the first time in the competition since Jan Molby achieved the same feat for Liverpool in 1986. But Souness was also delighted with the contribution of Kaba Diawara who scored his first goal for Rovers on his full debut.
"He's not even fit yet but we are all different and some people need six games, some people need 10 games. That was only his third 90 minutes this season and he will benefit from that.
"He worked extremely hard and did very well but I want a lot more from him and a lot more from everyone."
