IN response to the letter from W. Smith voicing concern about Earlestown Station's waiting room, I would like to set the record straight.

The future of the waiting room is currently the subject of positive discussions between Railtrack, St Helens Council, English Heritage and Merseytravel, all of whom are committed to seeing it properly restored.

The steel shuttering is merely a temporary measure to protect the building from further damage, while the roof is due to be replaced in keeping with the style of the building this current financial year.
