I HAVE read various people recently that agree with Richard Bacon. I think Barbie Smith is right our tourism chiefs shouldn't pander to him. Even one disgruntled local said he tells people he is from Blackpool or Southport. If that's what he thinks why doesn't he move there is no compulsion to live here.
I came to Morecambe by accident I was reading a property paper and when I saw the house prices I collected my family and got on the M6 going north.
I know there is trouble here and other social problems but there is everywhere these days its not just a Morecambe problem. Suffice to say I sold my overpriced inner city slum and with profit I bought a 3 bedroomed house outright with no building society. Best decision I ever made. Who could not be moved by sea views within 200 yards of my door and those glorious sunsets. My house is full of pictures I have taken, had enlarged and framed.
I am sorry Bubbles has closed and Frontierland is a shadow of its former self but has anyone noticed miniature railway has closed by battery and gone to a preserved railway in Scotland. Only a month ago I gave them 50 pence for a ride.
I have an idea that really would revitalise our town how about a municipally run casino in the Winter Gardens. Why should big business get the profit when we have our own good causes to pay for. Money could go on revitalising Bubbles and other things like compulsorily purchasing Frontierland and building a proper theme park.
There all these people with big disposable income let them shed some in our direction. I don't support wholly the marina idea as Bay will be spoilt by speed boats but it could be added to Heysham Harbour. I am sorry Barbie but not all visitors are going to want peace shattered. We don't want to see new visitors at cost of old people on a coach trip. We have to attract everyone but I think central promenade should get a 5mph restriction.
Where I live council calls Lower Heysham but I don't find anything snobby in that. My letterhead says Morecambe in capital letters. There is a lot to be proud about in this town but not everyone wants to go to Blackpool... ugh as far as I am concerned you can keep it. I would move back to an inner city rather than live there.
