Ahead from the third minute when Birch raced in from 40 yards, Ruskin dominated the first period, and soon added to their lead when full-back Mousley crossed in the corner. The visitors, however, hit back with two converted tries. Ruskin started the second half as they had the first and Mousley linked into the line to cross wide out, and Ruskin added to their lead when Gore followed a long break by Unsworth to score. Fisher converted and although Halton came again with another converted try, a break by Mousley saw Leyland in at the corner to seal victory.
